NCORE® National Advisory Committee Structure

The function of the NCORE® National Advisory Committee (NAC) shall be to assist in setting a vision for the conference or implementing that vision by making recommendations with respect to the conference program, keynote speakers, and special events. As the name suggests, its function shall be advisory.

The NAC consists of two subcommittees. The Program Subcommittee and the Marketing Subcommittee. The charge for each subcommittee is as follows:

Program Subcommittee Charge:
The Program Subcommittee shall make recommendations that pertain directly to the conference program. The committee’s focus shall be to identify issues, speakers, and themes appropriate for subsequent conferences. The committee’s recommendations shall take into account the professional development needs of all NCORE® participant communities, with continued attention to at least the following broad areas:  Faculty; Administrative/Institutionalizing Diversity; Public Policy; Organizational/Structural Issues; Today’s Students.

Marketing and Outreach Subcommittee Charge:
The Marketing and Outreach Subcommittee shall make recommendations on appropriate ways to market the conference. The focus shall be on increasing the visibility of the conference with the public at large as well as with potential participants on the campuses of our colleges and universities.  The Marketing and Outreach Subcommittee shall also make recommendations on appropriate ways to increase participation in the NCORE® conference. The focus shall be on increasing participation by the categories of persons who typically attend the conference, and by the institutions that support them. Attention should be given to those states and/or regions from which we now draw very few participants.

Detailed Structure of the NCORE® National Advisory Committee:

  1. The Committee shall consist a total of 45 members, and four students.

  2. Members shall be selected by the Executive Committee of the Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies each year after the committee application deadline.

  4. The Committee shall be composed of representatives from all of the racial and ethnic groups who regularly participate in the NCORE® in proportion to their participation. The proportion of participants who are males and females shall also be considered.

The form for making application will be available at the annual meeting. Applicants who are not selected for membership in any given year are encouraged to reapply for membership for the following year.
